That sticky, slushy mixture that falls from the skies in coastal Maine and NH piles up on the lights, and I used to have to stop every 15-20 minutes (in bad weather) just to get some illumination back. Grimy road spray also blocks a lot of light - you can lose 50% of your lamps' output in 15 minutes driving in the rain.
