If not ask. If they can't or won't tell you go to any auto store such as Advance and they can pull the code. I doubt the ECC unit failed just by changing the battery. I would never consider a new unit, get one from a wrecker and have the dealer plug it in (about 30 seconds) and re-enter a few parameters from their VADIS system, just a few more minutes.
