power loss 850 1994

Well, I've made progress with subject problem. First off, I want to thank you for your assistance and guidance with this problem. While I restore old Nashes and Ramblers, that technology does not help me much with this Volvo!

If I could bounce a couple of ideas, I would appreciate it. This one had the code 2-2-1. I replaced the fuel fitler. Checked for Vac leaks (none.) Went and bought a fuel pressure testing kit and just checked pressure, found 24 psi. manual says we need 43.5. Ah ha! Next I pulled off the P reg return line to make sure nothing was returning to the tank with lower than required pressure. Line was dry. No line leaks anywhere on the pressure side, front to back.

Therefore, I am thinking there is nothing else to the system other than the fuel pump. Is that correct? If so, sounds as if I need to get a new pump coming my direction.

Anticipating this job, I looked in the manual which says one must drop the gas tank. I guess that means there is no provided service access through the floor (this is a station wagon.) Have you ever had to replace an 850 fuel pump and managed to do it without dropping the tank?

Many thanks again for any information you can give.
