I've had similar difficulty as the car starts then dies.
This might be it:
Could be the immobilizer, there is a microchip inside the plastic part of the key. An antenna coil around the ignition lock communicates with the microchip and checks the ID-code... If the ID is not recognized, the engine shuts down..
One of our keys failed and gave exactly this symptom, try if another works better. There is also a known problem with the connector to the antenna coil.
As noted you might use a different key, or try returning key to pos 0, then 2, then back to 0 then try to start. Turn the key over and give that a try.
Also do a search: start, dies, V70. You might pick up something else.
