Replacing Low Beam Bulb on an '07 V70 V70-XC70 2007

'Anyone have any tips on replacing the passenger-side low beam bulb on an '07 V70? What were the VOLVO engineers thinking when they designed the headlight fixture? They must have assumed that the bulbs DON'T EVER NEED TO BE REPLACED!!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Bernie

Have you tried the "position lights" in the back yet?

Honestly, I expect it is a lot like the 01 I had. It isn't easy, but I did it without taking the headlight out.

I replaced the top "position" bulb over the weekend. Somewhat of a pain, but NOTHING compared to the low-beam bulb (on the passenger side) up front! VOLVO dealer wants $40 to replace it ...

Hmmm. Dealer charge for the bulb is probably $25, so for $15 extra you won't get any scraped knuckles? But the idea of $40 for one bulb is what is at stake here.

I understand from others on this board, you must remove the cool air pipe from the cumputer box and the filler nozzle from the washer bottle. The latter is held on by 1 screw.

It is a tight fit. Becareful not to touch the glass on the new bulb! Oil from your fingers will cause it to crack under high heat.

The $40 replacement charge from VOLVO excluded parts (!). I already bought the bulb ($26) from VOLVO, and will attempt to replace per suggestions from Klaus ($40 is worth scraping up my knuckles for). The dilemma now is: should I return the VOLVO bulb, and get a $15 Bosch bulb from Autozone instead? The VOLVO replacement bulb is Made in Germany, but I'd still like to get the point across to my dealer.

P.S.: Incidentally, I opened up the hood on my '96 850 wagon (310K miles) last night, and not only noticed that there was at least 10" of free space behind the headlights, but also that I had never replaced any headlight bulbs on that car!

$40 just to install the bulb?? My wife just had a lo-beam bulb(XC70) replaced at few days ago at the dealer & she was charged $35 parts/labor. One of the service gals came out to the car & put it in......she told my wife "You really don`t want to try this yourself!"
