Do Air Mass Meters go bad after a year??? S70

My 1998 S70 non-turbo is running rough again. A year and half ago, I had somewhat of the same issue which ended up being the Mass Air Meter. I replaced it and everything turned out great. Now, I have had the same issue, but not as bad. Can those Mass Meters go bad in only 1.5 years? I got it from
FCP Groton. I dont want to spend another couple hundred if it could be something else.
BTW, I have replaced the plugs, cap and rotor, which seemed to help for about 3 miles. If I unplug the AMM it still runs rough but drives. I will add that the day things went down hill, I washed out the engine a little to clean things up. I kept the water from the alternator, and let things dry up for a few hours before I started it. I hope that I didn't mess things up by rinsing it out?
If anyone has any information about this I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks
