Greetings –
I am the proud owner of a 1997 850 with a mere 180k that has recently developed a brake issue.
Originally it seemed as though the car had no “oomph”, but I later determined that the front driver’s side caliper was dragging (wheel was hot, brake dust etc.). Now this is where it gets interesting.
I was able to remove the caliper, but couldn’t compress the cylinder without removing the bleeder screw. I pulled the brake cylinder from inside the boot and it was shiny & clean. When I put it back together, I could not get the line to bleed without the car running – even with the bleeder screw removed.
After reassembling and going for a test drive the caliper again appears to be dragging, but because the entire bleeding was so unusual I am now wondering if my true problem might lie in the master cylinder.
Has anyone encountered these symptoms and can share the subsequent solution?
