On my 1990 740 Sedan the third brake light works, but the panel/sequential brake lights do not!? All the bulbs have been replaced and connections seem OK, but to no avail...What do you guys think?!?
Any suggestions of where to begin to fix?? Mike --

The Lamp Failure Relay is almost certainly your problem. Electricity goes to the Lamp Failure Relay on terminal 54 and goes out to the bake lights on terminals 54L and 54R. The Lamp Failure Relay is the large red round relay in the left front corner of the Central Electrical Unit. Remove the ash tray and the box between it and the radio (some cars have a stereo equalizer there). This will reveal the Central Electrical Unit which has the fuse block and all the relay bases in it. Remove the Lamp Failure Relay and test for continuity between the previously mentioned terminals. If there is no continuity between those terminals, you have found your problem. You can also check for voltage from the brake switch at the socket corresponding to terminal 54 of the Lamp Failure Relay. --
