I had an '83 which normally didn't use much oil. However, when I used it for local, in-town driving for very long, it would start using more oil. Not bad, maybe a quart in 1000 to 1500 miles. I think the rings were getting sticky because the engine never really got warmed up. When this happened, I would do an oil change with a quart of Rislone in place of one of the oil quarts. By the time the next oil change was due (3000 mi.), oil usage had improved to a quart in 3000 mi.. I've done this on several different cars with much the same results. Somewhere I read that Rislone and Marvel Mystery Oil contained wetting agents which I suppose helped the oil chemicals dissolve the gunk in the rings. Anyway, it works for me.
