Steering Box Adjustment[120-130/1967] posted by Eric Reuter on

My steering has a little bit of slop when changing directions. I know that the screw on top of the steering box is for adjustment. I'm wondering if there is any procedure for adjustment (e.g. wheel poisition, etc.), or if I should just tighten it down.

Thanks,
Eric

Raise the wheels off the ground. The worm in the 'box has a high spot in the dead ahead position.

IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE PLAY ON RIGHT AND LEFT LOCK.

Adjust the box in the dead ahead position, turning it from the steering shaft in the engine bay. The wheel is no good, gives way to much leverage. Just remove the play from the dead ahead position. any more and you will wreck the box in short order.

Pete
