tool rust prevention tip[700/86] posted by Steve Sauer on

To prevent tools from rusting while in the tool box, go to a pharmacy or grocery store and ask for "synthetic Camphor blocks". If the pharmacy doesn't have them they can be ordered. Place one of these blocks with a pin hole in the plastic covering in the storage area and the camphor will leak out heavier than air and prevent tools from rusting. It's an old trick and I've used it for 20 years to prevent woodworking tools from rusting while not in use. Of course use common sense and if you're allergic to camphor don't use this tip. In this country we have used red cedar furniture to prevent moth damage to woolens. In the Orient they use camphor chests for the same purpose.
