Shouldn't the flame trap have something in it? What about my leak? G/box oil? (Long post, sorry)[700/1988] posted by aaron on

Hi all,
I was trying to get my flame trap off the other day, took me the good part of an hour just to remove it.......the hose going into the bottom of the manafold (under intake 4) we completely in the way.....ended up forcing it out :o)... I went to go "clean" the flame trap......and there is nothing at all in there.....i stuck wire through it (blew through it first, to see if air would flow with no resistance, indicating no blockage), the wire just went straight through (bendy wire, threaded all the way through)....i had read in previous posts that you could just easily clean it out, i didn't want to crack open a perfectly good flame trap (albeit, missing a few parts?).....My question is, shouldn't there be something in the trap? It definately isn't blocked.......But, now my car has also decided it needs to show who is boss and mark it's territory.....(oil leak)...From the back of the engine somewhere.....The dist. seal does leak, but not this much.....it has just suddenly start, and appears as though it comes from the sump seal, or the rear main seal....Are these expensive to fix (if you get the clutch done at the same time!)? I was worried about my G/box oil (m47), i tried in VAIN to get the bolt undone (and not wanting to strip the nut), i couldn't........tried EVERY long 13mm spanner/socket/wrench/ring spanner that i have (i've got a few!!)....I couldn't move it. I would swear someone's either never touched it, or done it up with a rattle gun (air gun)....Does anyone have any clues to any of my problems? You guys (and girls) have been great before, i am hoping for help again :o)
Thanks in advance all!
