How to read VIN[200/1990] posted by Ron on

Can someone tell me how to read the VIN for 2001 MY Volvos? I'm most interested in which digits give the year and month of manufacture, but I'd really like to be able to decipher the whole thing. I thought the code brakdown would be in the owners manual as it was in my Saabs, but it's not.
Here is the breakdown...[200/1990] posted by Yannis Alatzas on

The year and month of manufacturing will be on the sticker inside one of the doors. The Year will also be indicated by the TENTH digit (it used to be a letter for cars up to and including MY2000).
Positions 1-3 Manufacturer Code
Position 4 Vehicle Series
Position 5 Body Style
Positions 6-7 Engine Version
Position 8 Emmissions
Position 9 Check Digit
Position 10 Model Year Code
Position 11 Factory Code
