All Diesels regardless of make are subject to cavitation, i.e. pitting of the cylinder walls on the coolant side. Cavitation can be prevented if regular maintenance of the cooling system was done, INCLUDING addition of SCA Supplemental Cooling Addative a.k.a. DCA. Ask the owner what kind of maintenance was done to the cooling system, if he doesn't mention SCA or DCA addatives, walk away from the vehicle.
