Hello again, I remember reading abt this subject last week (?). I'm considering the IPD sway bars, but it looks like my stock bars are bonded, not bolted. What are your guys' experiences with removing them? As I've not done this before, I could use some suggestions. I assume I would have to do some drilling for the new bars? What's the easiest/safest way to remove the old ones? I didn't check the back of the car, my understanding is that some of these models don't come with a rear sway. Any thoughts on that? any tips or tricks I should know? As always, your input is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi JimH,
I installed the IPD sway bar on my 1999 V70 XC. Since the rear is different between the V70 and V70 XC I can not help you on the rear.
However, I can help on the front end. The biggest problem I encountered was trying to remove the old sway bar. Volvo pressed the 2 mounting brackets onto the front sway bar such that you can not remove the brackets unless you drill them apart.
To more clearly state what I am getting at:
The sway bar has 2 brackets that hold the sway bar to the sub frame. Each bracket has 2 pieces. A top piece and a bottom piece. These top and bottom bracket pieces surround a block of rubber that has been bonded to the sway bar. In order to separate the top and bottom bracket pieces you have to first remove all the bolts that attach the sway bar to the car (i.e. un-bolt the brackets from the sub-frame and unbolt the sway bar from the end tie-rods, this is easy to do). Next wiggle the sway bar to the passenger side and using a large drill, drill into to mounting bracket bolt hole so as to remove the metal that is attaching the top bracket piece to the bottom bracket piece. Once this is done you can wiggle the bar to the driver side following the IPD instructions (this requires removing the power steering rack so that you can get the sway bar pass the rack) and you have the old sway bar out! This procedure took me around 3 hours after I figured out the trick. Installing the new sway bar once the old sway way was removed took me about 20 minutes.
Another easy way but will cost you some money is to get either the dealer to do the install or an independent auto shop. Either method you use, you will like the way the car handles with the new sway bar.
