How is your engine wiring harness. It's the one which goes from the passenger side firewall connectors, behind the engine. From there it goes under the intake manifold and makes various connections from there. To check, look at the wires attached to the top of the intake manifold and also the yellow exposed wire inder the first and second intake manifold pipe, the two front ones. Look at the insulation and if it crumbles at all or the bare wires are exposed, that could be your problem. You have the 'year' for what we all call a biodegradable engine wiring harness. They are available at the dealer, via mail order or on e-bay.
Please report your findings. If the harness is good, then there is something else, for instance the sensor in the distributor. Please look at the 700/900 FAQ via the features pull down menu.
