Body work[V70/98] posted by Tom E on

Body tips, tricks and tools would be appreciated...

Question #1:

Where is the airbag trigger, or do I have to disconnect the battery (yes, I have my radio code) or something?

I want to remove the front right fender for repairs.

I went slowly and deliberately, removed the front bumper, blinker light housing, and all fender screws. Then I got scared because I don't know where the airbag trigger is! So I buttoned everything back up.

Question #2:

The front passenger door has a rattle when opened and shaken, and when the electric window is lowered all the way there is a clunk. What is the best way to open up the door without buggering it or breaking plastic fasteners?

Question #3:

Is there a good body manual for my car?

Thanks! --

Question # 1: the air bags are triggered by the SRS module, no smashing of sensors or such, the SRS module is under your center console. Disconnecting the battery is always safe and wise.

Question #2: there is a guide rail for the back of the window that has been known to break and fall down in the bottom area of the inner door, the clunk you hear. There is a post at the below link that will tell you how to get the door panel off. (Replacing door latch) You might want to have the part when you go in there. The part number is car serial number specific or I'd tell you the part number. --

The air bag "trigger" is under the center console just behind the hand brake handle. There are no external wires or sensors to worry about. The entire system is totally self contained within the passenger compartment. The rattle in your door is the lower rear window guide chanel. It is broken off where it attaches to the door just below the red door edge lamp. Pull the door panel and you will find it laying in the bottom of the door. --
