I have an 84 that I had to do this on. I used a stiff piece of metal
wire. I curled the end over so it wasn't sharp and attached the replacement
wires to this and I was able to fish this through the shifter. I used
teflon insulated wire for the replacement wires. This has worked fine for
the last two years and the teflon insulation is very tough. A new knob and
OD switch and it all works very well.
Dave 82 242ti, 84 242ti factory intercooled makes a difference.
