Check Engine Light[850/95] posted by mike nguyen on

Today, the 'Check Engine' light in my 850 Turbo was on. I immediately checked the oil and it was 2 quarts low (apparently there is oil leak somewhere), so I refilled it right away, but the light stayed on...

My car is still running fine with no degradation in performance or anything noticeable.

I will bring it in to the dealer to check it out soon, but can anyone tell me what is the problem and how severe is it?

The check engine light is there to indicate an emission related problem. It is conected to the on board diagnostic system in your car. In some cases it will come on due to a mechanical problem, provided the problem causes emission faults. There are in excess of 80 fault codes relating to emission problems. The car needs to be diagnosed properly to find the cause of the light. Some problems include oxygen sensor failure, ignition missfire, vacuum leaks, etc. It can also be triggered by an automatic trans problem. --
