Where is it?! I have looked on the transmission from below pretty well assuming it would be there based upon the very general instructions found in the Chilton manual. Or is it on the top side where the shift cables go in? I have replaced one of these switches before on a truck and was expecting to find and replace it easily.

If it's a manual trans car, it's on the top of the trans below the airbox. Remove the airbox and you'll see it.
On the other hand, if it's an auto trans car, you'll need to replace the PNP switch (or gear position sensor).
