You Said it. I've normally had non-turbo 240 volvos as well as a glorious stint with a 122 wagon that I drove the shit out of and it asked for more I sold it to get an 1800e, beutiful, I love it, great daily driver, very sexy, a little rust but the whole car looks good, when I saw my friend's 242 turbo, I had to have it. I made him sell it to me and I am having a blast playing with it. Depending on what you've got to work with and how much money you are willing to pour into it it is an incredible car to have, you can easily make them very fast. Go here http://www.turbocharged.net/
I'm crrently more attracted to this car than the 1800, I must be nuts. sure the 1800 is prettier but the turbo is faster, I don't have to treat it gently. Get the rust abated then work on the egine, : rebuild the turbo, new timing belt, new wiring harness. Just get it going, forgo the anal retentive restoration unless you are a wealthy masochist or a monied DIY go for it in that case but otherwise get it so that you can take a ride in in.
By the by, if anyone wants an '70 1800 here's the link, I'm the only ad with a picture:
