Here is my two cents on this subject. On the rubber O ring for the head
and the heater tube. I use Dow 111. This is a lubricant for rubber. It
stops the rubber from sticking to metal so it can expand and contract with
the heat of the engine. It is in a tube form and is like a grease. Works
great. If you are into Old VWs and Porsches this is the stuff to seal
pushrod tubes and oil return tubes. Its also a good idea to clean the surface of the head where the O ring goes with a little emery paper so
its nice and smooth. Lastly it does make a difference which pump you buy.
The casting quality on the GMB pumps is for shit compared to original
Volvo. More than once in using the GMB I have had to smooth the surface
to provide a proper seal. On my car I won't use that brand anymore. There
is a brand that looks pretty nice called Hepu. They are from Germany and
have a nice brass impeller similiar to the one volvo used to use. Hope
it works out better for you this time around.
