Door locks out of sync - ideas?[XC/2001] posted by Ian Doull on

I have 2001 XC and am having a problem with one of the rear side locks. All three of the other door locks work in sync but when the remote is depressed to open the locks, all open except the one on the driver's side in the back. I've tried manually pulling it out but, next time the remote is used, it stubbornly reverts to being closed when the others are open. Do I have to somehow reset the whole remote system and, if so, how do I do this?

Thanks in advance! --
Ian

Is this possibly related to subfreezing temps? Does the situation go away when the car is warmed up above freezing?

Ian-
There is a bulletin on the lock knobs sticking in the bushing in the door panel under certain temperature-related conditions, but this sounds like it happens all the time on your car. The earlier X70s (98-00) had a 'weak link' in the power lock system. If the outer door handle was activated while the power lock operated, it broke a tab in the lock/latch assembly. I've changed about a hundred of the latches for this problem, but not a single one on a '01 model. The symptom for the earlier cars was the door would lock with the remote, but not unlock. You could manually pull the button up and get the door open. Regardless, take it to the dealer and have it fixed since it is covered by the new car warranty.
