I have seen several referals made to Volvo "white" engine- what does that mean?

White= alloy block (4-5-6 cyl.) (960, SV90, 850, SV70, SV40, S80, S60)

Red= iron block (240, 740, 760 Turbo, 780 Turbo, 940)

PRV=Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 (some 260s, 760s, 780s)
