I use one from MVP, which sources them from a shop that builds them for Toyota offroad racing trucks that use the AW71. Stock stall speed is rated at 2500 rpm, but true stall is really about 1800 to 2000 rpm. The MVP high stall speed converter has a true stall speed of about 2600 to 2700 rpm in my 89 745T. Stall speed will vary depending on the motor and its modifications, but the 2600 rpm range is typical. Cost was $275. Makes the car lots of fun off the line. No need to power brake. Just put your foot down and the converter slips to about 2600 rpm, at which point your turbo is beginning to or already making decent boost (depending on turbo). The car takes off. No need to wait while the turbo spools up. No pulling or driveability issues. Loss of 1-2 mpg in my experience. A well worthwhile modification, particularly to a pre 1990 car that has the larger turbo and associated lag.
