flutuating idle when cold[200/1993] posted by Tom Brady on

Hello Boarders,

What might be causing a '93 240's idle to fluctuate when cold, in park or neutral? Not when in gear and not ever if hot.

I know the problem you are tlaking about, and had a similar "problem" with my 93 245.In fact, occassionally, the car would stall. This is not unique to the 240, but is unique to the 93, due to the fact that it has parts from 700/900s. Its a little different system. Beleive it or not, I have even felt the little idle shimmy in the 2001 XC, just far less pronounced.

Primarily this is caused by the relay that activtaes the shift lock mechanism. The relay is under the kick panel by the drivers right foot. Put a 92 relay in, and the problem is cured. Your other choice-which I did-was to disarm the shiftlock, and remove the relay.

A tech I know said that to cure the problem in 700s, and some 240s, you could also change the intake manifold to the earlier style, with the valve screw , and it helped. --
