My V70 T5M claims it needs a new air pump & valve.
Can I do this myself? Volvo want $599.

Yes you can. I just did this myself a few days back. It should only take you a few hours at most. The valve is easy it sticks way up in the back of the engine compartment (the round silver thing). Just dont trash the little clamp on the small purple hose cause you can reuse it if you leave it on there (it slides off and on fairly easy). Theres just two bolts and two clamps on that. As for the air pump, you have to dig a bit but its not too hard. First disconnect both terminals on the battery. Then pull the battery out entirely (remove the clip in the front and slide it out) Theres two bolts in the tray that hold it down. Take out those and the two other bolts which attach a wire harness and some other piece of hardware. Then slide the tray out towards the passenger side and lift it out. Follow the hose coming from the top front of the air box down and you'll find the pump. There's two bolts holding a bracket to the panel there. Pull those out and you can work the air pump out. Then its just a wire harness and two hose clamps. Reinstall is the exact opposite. Make sure you dont get any crap in the new pump when you put it in or down the pipe to the valve. All told this thing took me about 2 hours with a 30 minute intermission for an extra hose clamp (dealer only gave me three).
