Who has replaced ALL the rear bushings?[200/1987] posted by Jim on

If bricksters stuff rope into cylinders to avoid buying the special service tool to remove the crank pulley bolt, maybe someone out there has changed his rear end bushings with 'home made' tools without resorting to a 40T hydraulic press.

I can hand carry parts to a shop to have the smaller piece bushings pressed out & in. BUT I don't want to pull out the whole rear end to get those two big bushings out & in.

Anyone done those big bushings without a hydraulic press?

I built the press kit for changing the trailing arm bushings. My kit is modeled directly on the Volvo kit, and a machinist friend turned several of the mandrels for me. These were machined to fit each end of the bushing.

Works like a charm. Not hydraulic, but mechanical—it uses a threaded rod like the Volvo kit.

Speaking of the "rope trick," I also built the pulley tool—again, copied shamelessly from the Volvo tool. --
