240 steering wheel removal[200/'87] posted by Ryan Bennett on

Hello-
I'm trying to clean contacts and do a little maitanance behind the instrument cluster. I tried it today, but it's obvious that I'm going to need to remove the steering wheel. The Chilton maual isn't much help, so I was wondering if I remove the cover of the steering wheel, are the springs for the horn going to pop out? Also, when I remove the nut to get the wheel off, is it easy to re-align it again? Thanks a lot.

Hello, it really may seem that you have to remove the wheel but you actually don't just slide the cluster up on to the wheel in its straight position, disconect all the wires and slide the cluster to the pass. side and out. and if you have to pull the wheel for something else just pull the horn pad at all 4 corners and it will come off no problem (you WILL need a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off though)
Good luck!
Steve
