Can not remove ignition key from ignition lock![V70/1998] posted by john k on

Help, I can't get the key out of the lock. '98 V70 T5 Auto. Trans is firmly in Park position. Started car and turned it off a few times. Drove it around the block. Tapped on the underside of steering wheel housing. Checked fuses. Wiggled the shifter. Rotated key from start to off many times. Nothing seems to work to dislodge the key from the lock. Is the mechanism that locks the key into the ignition (Keylock System, page 67 in owners manual) a mechanical or electrical operated device? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If the key is not turning back all the way then you should check to see if your shiftlock override button is stuck down. If it is then wiggle it up with a couple of small screwdrivers and cycle the key and it should come out. Hope this helps. --

Brad, thank you very much. You correctly diagnosed the problem. I grabbed the shift lock override button with a small pair of pliers, gave it a yank, and the key came right out! My check is "in the mail". K.
