How do you turn on the alarm system?[S40-V40/2000] posted by Ed Peckoff on

Two days ago I brought my S40 to the local service station (big mistake) for an inspection. Then yesterday, I noticed that the headlights no longer flash when I turn off the car and the alarm indicator no longer blinks. I'm assuming that the gas station did something to disengage the alarm.

Any way I can check this out and then turn back on the alarm myself?

I'm no automotive wizard but I'd appreciate any input rather than bringing the car back to Volvo for this.

I had the same problem with my alarm . It turned out to be that the hood was not properly locked all the way down after the service sta. cheked the oil. It was like that for 3 days until I checked the hood.

You were right. The disengaged alarm was caused because the jerks at the service station never closed my hood all the way.

Thanks to everyone who responded. You saved me an agravating and unnecessary trip to Volvo service.
