Remotes from different years- do they work on a 97?[850/1997] posted by Wesley Nance on

Hi,

I bought a 94 keyless entry remote from someone off the newsgroup after checking with the service department of my local Volvo dealer to confirm that it would indeed work with my 97 855 wagon.

I received the remote today, and it looks good, the battery has power, but it won't program my receiver. My other remote, the one that came with the car will program fine.

Is there anything else I can do, or do the earlier year remotes not work with 97s? I know the V70 remote is different, but I thought all the other years were interchangeable even though they had cosmetic differences.

Just to be clear, I'm doing the cycle the ignition 5 times method to program, and it works with my 97 remote. . .

Thanks
