Rough Idle, HELP! Many things done, still bad[200/1989] posted by Charley Aebersold on

Friends,

I have a 1989 240 DL. The engine shakes excessively at idle; once every couple of months it even stalls out when coming to an aggressive stop.

Things I've checked or done:

Totally cleaned throttle. Replaced flame trap and hose. New plugs and wires. Had compression check; compression is fine. Had TPS checked, only thing wrong is it doesn't give reading on a Fluke meter when the throttle is wide open. O2 Sensor is working properly. Checked with propane for vaccum leaks-none. Any other suggestions?

Charley

I done all the same things and the thing taht finally fixed mine (89 740GLE) was the idle control motor being replaced. It is just under the intake manifold on the B230F, which should be your motor. I got a used one for just under 50.00, but I am thinking that this one is beginning to mess up (after 6 mo or so)...so a new one might have really been the order of the day.
Good luck.

Our 93 240 had the described problem. It was suggested to me it might be the brake booster or brake booster check valve. It turned out to be the brake booster. I replaced the booster and the problem was gone.
