Electric cooling fan[200/1991] posted by chris herbst on

At risk of sounding stupid, what activates the electric pusher fan in front of my radiator? I've never heard it go on! Since I'm putting in a new thermostat tomorrow and doing some other minor cooling system work, I thought I'd try to figure out if it even works. Is it a temp switch or does it just go on with the A/C (which I can't seem to turn on either)?

The Electric Pusher fan is supposed to be wired thru the AC Switch for the 91 model year.

If the AC won't come on maybe the freon level is too low and the AC Sensor will not pass enough voltage to engage the AC Relay. (All encompassing "fail safe" to protect the AC Compressor).

Thanks. You saved me from trying to find the thermal switch when doing my thermostat today. Of course, now I have to look into the A/C :)

Start with the freon charge condition, then check the AC Relay (we know how relays can fail!) and finally the condition of the capillary tube on the switch.
