various transmission mounts--read this![200/1991] posted by chris herbst on

IF you are considering replacing your transmission mount in a 200 series Volvo, and your car uses the square mount (I believe AW70 and M47 cars)
BUY THE VOLVO ONE!
My posts about my '91 being "boat-ish" in it's feel, and always feeling like the suspension was getting it's act back together after a big bump was really the crappy aftermarket square trans mount that I bought from IPD for $18. It was the same mount I bought before THAT for $10. They suck, and they are half the size of the real thing that Volvo sells.
Basically now my car is TIGHT. The trans still moves a little but not like it did before. Also the bigger Volvo mount stops motion before it bounces repeatedly, which is a really unsettling feeling, like the engine is falling out of the car. Also the engine movement fights the suspension a little, so the car feels much better overall now.
Interestingly, the IPD engine mounts are really hard rubber, which I like. But square trans mount is way too small on the aftermarket. Shop Volvo for this part, it is worth the extra thirty or forty bucks.
Retail: Wilde Volvo, $51.00
Jenkins Volvo, $55.00
I didn't look farther than that.
The point: It is worth it, and it WILL save your exhaust system from failing prematurely from too much movement, which has happened to me before.
