momentary start switch installation[120-130/67] posted by Josh Lasserre on

Since I'm down to my last two Taylor modely V77
keys I want to install a momentary push button starter
in my car in order to prevent anymore key loss. It seems easier
to just install a starter switch then go for the whole
ignition replacement thing. I looked at the back of the ignition
and I saw the armored cable running to the coil
and two exposed threaded posts. So when I get this momentary
swith do I just connect it to the two posts turn the key to
position "1" and hit the switch? Somebody help me before I'm
all out of keys.

There are three visible terminals on the back of the ignition switch outside the armored cable. Don't remember the order off the top of my head, but one is the 12V supply from the battery (usually a heavier wire than the others), one is the wire to the starter solenoid, and the third is switched 12V - same circuit as inside the armored cable.

Disconnect solenoid wire from the ignition switch and connect to one side of your momentary switch. Hook the other side of the momentary switch to the switched 12V terminal on the ignition switch.

To start the car, simply turn ignition to the "run" position and activate your new switch to crank the starter.

I've had this in my 122S for many years and have not broken one key since.
