Cold heated seat. Most probable cause?[850/94] posted by Stephen on

I checked the archives on this but came up with nothing on 850s. Before I start pulling apart the seat it would be nice to know where to start looking. The light on the switch works fine and I even pulled the switch apart and cleaned the contacts. Where next? Thanks.

First place to start is, raise your seat as high as you can, then get down and look up under the back of the seat. You are looking for two wires that go up into the seat foam, one of them is red and it usually breaks off. These two wires connect to the thermostat that is stuffed up in the hole (you can pull it down), and with the red wire disconnected no heat. The next common problem is the heater grid on the bottom portion of the seat is open, which requires you to replace it, you can verify an open by checking it with a meter. A schematic helps but without it you can figure it out if you use the two wires that go to the thermostat as a starting point.
