I watched the locksmith do thois last time at the mall....
She took a rubber wedge, the kind you fit under a door as a door stop, and wedged it into the top corner of the door with a mallet and then used a flexible fibreglass wand w/ a loop on the end to snare the latch knob...you couuld do same with a rubber door stop and a coathanger...
