Air Conditioner Noise[200/1991] posted by Rob Baldwin on

When I turn on the air conditioner in my 1991 240 I sometimes get a nasty noise which sounds like a metal object being thrust into a spinning fan. When I turn off the a/c it goes away. When I open the hood, the sound goes away. When I close the hood it comes back. The vibrations and noise seems to come from the very front of the car. I see no evidence of metal striking metal. This sound is truly frightening. Any thoughts? --

The safety catch on your hood is touching the fan. Loosen the fan and push it back closer to condenser.
