WHOA!
The maintenance thing at ten years is to see if the SRS warning light comes when key is turned on and then goes out if you start car indicating that the bulb works and the system self-test thinks everything is okay.
Originally the carmakers were concerned that the sodium azide used to inflate bag would lose its effectiveness in as little as ten years under worst case conditions (high heat, very high humidity). Now they feel that at least 15 years or maybe more will have to pass before the inflation effectiveness diminishes.
