The two are the same except for a very few things done to the versions that are badged V90. This happened during the 97 model year and resulted in the first S and V 90's being effectively 97 1/2 models.
The changes are: 1. revised center console with seat heater switches moved forward 2. the fuel system is outfitted to have the fuel pressure monitoring feature to comply with a leakage detection rule from EPA, i.e. sets fault code if fuel cap is not fitted properly or has any faint leaks of any sort. 3. the rear brakes are changed to use the same rotors as AWD/XC V70, rotors are a little larger in diameter and a bit thicker.
