new wiring harness FI connections[700/1986] posted by philip on

My new wiring harness arived today. All the connectors look somwhat different in shape and location and I think it will be apparent where they go, except the four to the fuel injectors--two are long and two are short. How do I know which goes to which injector?

The injector leads on that model are all spliced together down the harness about 12 inches. The injectors are all operated simultaneously so it doesn't matter so long as it looks good and the wire isn't stretched. Be sure you know which connector is plugged to idle valve and which one is plugged to throttle switch. Pull back the boot on the three wire plug and find a red/white, orange, and I think a brown wire. This one goes to throttle switch.

I did my 83 GL (similar to 245) wiring harness from scratch parts (not an expensive OEM harness). Now I am doing the same thing for an 85 760 turbo with more extensive replacement of the wires.
I am about to do the 4 injectors. For each injector, there are 2 wires: one black (?) and one green. As you said, all the 4 black (?) wires are crimped to a heavier gauge grey wire. I have checked Haynes manual and this proves to be correct. The 4 green wires are connected to the 4 "ballast resistors" on the driver side fender.
I have noticed that the way the black and green wires are connected to the plugs are different. Injector #1 has the wires connected one way, while injectors #2-4 have the connecting to the plugs a different way. (I may be wrong, because I did not remove the rubber boots completely to see for sure. My feeling is that these injectors are DC operated and should all be connected in the same way.
What do you think?
By the way, replacing the harness from scratch is simple and very cost effective. I estimate cost of wires, shrink wrap tubing, and parts about $30. It takes more time, though.

The turbo versions are different in that they use the ballast resistors and the splice point on the power feed side is actually the ballast resistor set. The injector is simply a wound electromagnet coil and it shouldn't make any difference which way the green feed wire from resistor and the switched ground wire out of control unit (whatever color it is) are connected. BUT, I'm squirrelly enough it would bother me that they are not consistent and would make them all the same way.
