One may certainly pull the starter and block the flywheel with a suitable wedge. I've found that one of my cold chisels fits well. But, you'll be sure that I'll try first to throw all my weight into a breaker bar with the car in gear and the brakes engaged. Then I'd try the 'ol rope trick. And finally, if it's getting me to curse, I'll go to the starter. --
