Classic Parts[1800/1973] posted by Jeff Kerr on

I understand that a few years ago, Volvo sold their older car stock (NOS)to a separate group that handles the "classic" parts. These are, however, still only accessible through the dealers. The dealers (and it appears, Volvo in general) have no good reference system for parts for these cars and must trudge through old books, microfiche, manuals, etc. to get and pursue part #s until they get to a book that says either "available" or "No longer Available". I realize some parts were used in later models and are actually still carried by the dealers as current inventory.

Very frustrating for the parts guys and me too!

Is there any way to find out what new parts are really available for the older rigs (take for example, my '73 1800ES)? Items such as front seatbelts (yes!, I ordered a set, including retractors) or visor clips (mine are brittle and breaking, prefer not to buy used(brittle)ones) or, perhaps, an interior rearview mirror (mine is rotting on the back).

I'm sure this is an old story for many here on the Brickboard but I've only owned Volvos for 15 years (2 new ones and 2 used ones)and have much to learn.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Jeff,
There seems to be a discrepency for the Genuine Classic Parts AB address provided by Scott. The Canadian Volvo Club lists the address as:
Genuine Classic Parts AB
Backamarken, S-555 92
Jonkoping, Sweden

You can contact them and ask to be put on there mailing list. They are also manufacturing new parts for classic Volvos.

Good Luck! One of the addresses should be correct! :)
