My std trans 240 idles fine but dies out after you put it into gear.[200/82] posted by Gary Becker on

I'm still trying to fix my 240 wagon. It idles okay when it's cold or hot. When I put the car into gear (std transmission) it dies. I know how to drive a std trans. car so it's not because I'm letting up on the clutch too quickly.

Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Gary - I believe that your 82 has the Bosch K-jetronic injection system - also known as mechanical injection or Continuous Injection System. You can recognize it by the hosed to the individual injectors and no electrical connections on the injectors. There is a big rubber bellows under the intake manifold. I suspect that your problem is with fuel delivery. If fuel filter has not ben changed in recent history, now is the time to do it. Also, your car will benefit from a can of BG44K added to the fuel tank - follow instructions on can and after you drive the tank of gas through (difficult to do at idle I realize), change the oil and filter. This will clear up problems with clogged/dirty injectors and sticky components in the fuel distributor. Other possible problems are the control pressure regulator and fuel pump. Both of these can affect fuel delivery. --
