Peter,
There is a service bulletin about this very thing if your radio is a sc-816 .
My guess is that your car is under warrenty. Let the dealer mess with it. If you really want to do it yourself I could fax the bulletin to you. 1-800-220-7311

Thanks. Even though I mis-typed (it's a 97 not a 98), the radio unit is an sc-816 and the car is still under warranty. Unfortunately, I can't get an appointment at the dealer for another 2 weeks. If the procedure doesn't involve breaking the seal on the radio (which I suppose would void further warranty work), I'd appreciate it if you could fax the bulletin. Otherwise, I'll just wait. Two weeks w/o the cd player isn't all that unbearable. Fax: 212.596.9090.
