Volvo alternative to IPD skid plate[850/ALL] posted by Dave Harris on

There have been several recent threads on the IPD skid plate for the 850's and 70 series cars. I just wanted to make sure people considering the IPD plate knew that Volvo is now selling a protective cage for the oil pan/transmission that serves the same purpose. It is designed differently than the IPD part - it's a cage composed of flat galvanized steel bars instead of a aluminum plate. I do not have any first hand knowledge of this part, but do have a copy of an accesory bulletin that describes it (Access. Bull. (Sport Group) No. 24, September 1997).

Price when I checked was less than IPD ($140 list). Some excerpts from the bulletin:
-heavy duty galvanized steel will not rust and resists bending
-easy to install into existing holes
-cage design assures max. air flow and cooling efficiency
Install time listed as .4 hours

I'm relatively sure the part number is 9444164-9 for the S70,V70, and 850's, but you better double check that.

Anybody bought one of these yet?

Dave
