Mark:

You explicitely stated that you want everything to work as designed. Well, coming from there, please ignore what Dick wrote. The preheater hose is designed to bring the engine to operating temperature as soon as possible, thus lowering emission output by shortening this phase. Removing it is evaluated as a deliberate act to modify a car's emission system. At least in California, it means such a car would not, or at least, should not pass the visual part of a smog test. Dick is right when saying that your car will run without it, but advising anyone to just throw it away without giving the whole story is, in my oppinion, not helping you.
