740 no-start - Cranks Sensor?[700/1990] posted by KenC on

The other day she wouldn't start - replaced the fuel pump relay. Started second try. Today wouldn't start again, went through some diagnostics and finally jiggled the crank sensor wire. She started fine. Sensor wire had worn outer insulation. Possible short? Common problem?

This was dealt with by a new rpm sensor from Volvo with a longer lead and two stand-off connectors that separates the lead from the hose and pipe. The one you have shorted out through rubbing on the heater pipe at the back of the engine. Mine had a similar problem. Order a new one with the standoff clips and you'll be set. --
