Power Windows[700/85] posted by Gary on

I have a 1985 740GL with power windows. The problem is that sometimes they won't roll down, then without me doing anything, the next time I try them, they are working. I have never had them stop working in the down position but many times, I can't get them to roll down. Any ideas will help.

Sounds maybe like dirty switches. You can replace them, or with care, disassemble, clean, lube, and reassemble them.

A pencil eraser works very well for cleaning the contacts. Lube with synthetic grease, but do it sparingly, and KEEP IT OFF the electrical contacts.

Note that dirty switch in the driver's door can still prevent passengers from opening the other windows. --
